"Reactance method" is noted in the member registration. What does reactance method mean?
Most Tanita products released on the market since October 2003 implement measurements by the reactance method.
Data analysis is conducted by the DXA method (double x-ray absorption method), which makes it possible to comprehend body composition by site and estimates body fat percentage based on that criterion.
The DXA method is characterized by having fewer unstable elements in data measurements than the conventional underwater weighing method, thus enabling more meticulous analysis of body composition. Therefore, new judgment tables have been prepared for the judgments provided through this service together with measurement data by the DXA method.

The Relay-Key
What is the Relay-Key?
In short, using the Relay-Key makes it possible by simple operation to automatically collect measurement data using measurement devices (*), store and compile the measurement data at regular intervals, transfer it to the special website and access graphs, etc., by PC in a service known as the Health Graph Diary.
Doing so makes it possible to easily record daily measurement data while using various services.
Note: Automatic data collection and storage are not possible by only purchasing the Relay-Key.* Only Tn-Link compatible measurement devices (
Introduction to the Relay-Key family) are applicable.

Relay-Key setting method]
How is measurement data transferred from the various devices to the Relay-Key?
Measurement data is transferred by infrared light communication.
Tn-Link compatible products (
Introduction to the Relay-Key family) are equipped with a communication section for that purpose.
If, for example, you are using a body composition analyzer, since interactive communication is used, it is possible to activate (turn on) the analyzer and automatically incorporate the data when measuring body composition and transferring the data even if you do not crouch down to operate the button.

What is the Relay-Key?]
Is data protected while it is being transferred?
Data transferred by the Relay-Key is totally encrypted.
How much data is the Relay-Key able to retain in memory?
It is possible to record about a 15-day portion of measurement data for each measurement device.
As a general indication, it would be possible to save about a fifteen-day portion of three types of measurement data consisting of body composition analyzer (10 times/day), blood pressure gauge (10 times/day) and pedometer (1 hour units).
Is it possible to view the data stored in the Relay-Key in the Explorer, etc.?
Unlike the USB Memory Stick or other similar products available on the market, it is not possible to view the data.
Please explain the Relay-Key operating environment.
How many people can use the Relay-Key?
Only one person can use a single Relay-Key since it retains in its memory the stature, age and sex (of the individual) at the time of member registration.
If it were to be used as well by family members or others, that could be the cause of a malfunction. Therefore, each person should purchase one for their own personal use.
Note: The company will not guarantee any problems with data or devices when using the Relay-Key that may occur due to use by multiple users.
I would like to give my Relay-Key to my daughter because I don't use it anymore. Is that possible?
There is basically no problem. Be sure to initialize the Relay-Key first before giving to her. It will not operate normally unless it is initialized first.

I would like to have several Relay-Keys for my own use. Would it be possible to register all of them on the same member's page?
It is possible for a single individual to use multiple Relay-Keys.
Please purchase them to match the use that you have in mind.
Are there any plans for releasing new products that are compatible with the Relay-Key in the future?
How many times can measurements be saved with a single Relay-Key?
Just in the case of model BC-580 body composition analyzer, it is possible to store data from about 600 measurements. Data can, for example, be saved as indicated below.
* 1 measurement per day: 600 days of data
* 3 measurements per day: 200 days of data
* 10 measurements per day: 60 days of data
I would like to store measurement data for my whole family in a single Relay-Key.
The Relay-Key is designed for use by individuals. Please purchase separate Relay-Keys for each member of your family.
I used someone else's Relay-Key by mistake and recorded my own measurement data in it. Now I would like to delete that data.
It is possible to delete data on the website but you would not be able to log into the member's page unless you had that person's ID and password. You should consider changing the place where you keep it, appending a label or taking other steps to avoid making such mistakes.
Is it possible to transfer data from another Relay-Key to my own?
It is not possible to transfer data between Relay-Keys.
It is possible to edit measurement data stored in the Relay-Key?
It is not possible to edit the data.
It is possible to save the data stored in the Relay-Key in CSV or other format?
It is not possible.
Is it possible for me to select the measurement data that I want to store in the Relay-Key
(e.g., storing only body fat percentage, estimated bone mass and basal metabolic rate data in the Relay-Key)?
It is not possible. All data provided by the body composition analyzer itself is stored in the Relay-Key.
Tn-Link compatible measurement devices (Relay-Key family)
Can body composition analyzers, blood pressure gauges and pedometers be used without using the Relay-Key?
Yes, it is possible to use the various measurement devices by themselves.
You can use them when you are not using the Relay-Key to collect data.
What are the specifications and items that can be measured for each device?
[Body composition Monitor]
I would like to use it with a family of 6. In the case of body composition analyzers, it is only possible to register a maximum of four people when used alone. If we use the Relay-Key, would it be compatible with usage by 6 people?
Yes, you can. Though registration for the body composition analyzer when used alone is limited to 4, using the Relay-Key would make it possible to handle any number of users with one analyzer.
It is not possible to transfer measurement data to the Relay-Key after pressing the individual key and analyzing body composition.
What is the maximum communication range?
The maximum communication range of the body composition analyzer is about 1m in height and about 50cm in radius from the infrared communication section on the upper left side of the device. (Maximum communication range)

Is it possible to store in the Relay-Key data from body fat and body composition analyzers currently in use at home?
Body fat and body composition analyzers without the Tn-Link logo appended are not compatible with the Relay-Key.
To confirm devices compatible with Relay-Key use, refer to [»
Introduction to the Relay-Key family]
Are the products of other companies also compatible with the Relay-Key?
No, they are not compatible.
[Pedometers]
How do the pedometers differ from conventional pedometers?
Since conventional pedometers are single-axis type, the only way to use them is to attach them at the waist.
In addition, since the 2-axis type also have certain product orientations that are not measurable, it is necessary to place them in your pocket or in a bag with the proper orientation. However, pedometers equipped with 3D sensors use 3-axis acceleration sensors and they can therefore be used without concern about product orientation or angle. They need not be attached at the waist but can be carried in a pocket or in a bag or worn with a neck strap.
What is a 3-axis acceleration sensor?
It is a sensor that is capable of measuring acceleration in the three directions X, Y and Z.
Are they more accurate than conventional pedometers?
In tests with vibration testers, there was no difference between the conventional pedometers attached at the waist and pedometers equipped with 3D sensors
(they both satisfy the standards demanded by JIS).
I tried moving it but the indicator display didn't change right away.
Since pedometers with 3D sensors react to various movements, in order to perceive the step count, no display appears until it senses continuous movement for about 7 seconds or more.
When it senses continuous movement for about 7 seconds or more, it displays the value measured up to that point at one time.
In addition, if movement stops (for about 1 sec.), there is no display until it senses movement again for another 7 seconds or more.
What should I do if I want to obtain more accurate values?
You should carry or mount 3D sensor equipped pedometers as securely as possible.
For example, it would probably be possible to confirm more accurate values if the pedometer were placed inside of a small pocket inside of a bag so that it is held in place and does not move around.
The display disappeared after I put the pedometer down for a while.
If 3D sensor equipped pedometers do not sense any movement for about 10 minutes or more, the power conservation mode is activated and the entire display disappears.
However, if it senses even a little movement or if the button is operated, "HELLO" is displayed for about 1 second, followed by the usual display of "step count + time."
What is the battery cover attached with screws?
Because of the product's drop-proof specifications.
Since a variety of uses are assumed, pedometers equipped with 3D sensors are designed to be able to withstand moisture, including perspiration when carried in the pocket.
The screws are Phillips head screws available on the market and a simple screwdriver is included as an accessory.
When I looked at the pedometer in the morning, the step count and other measurement values had all reverted to zero.
3D sensor pedometers are equipped with an auto-memory function.
When midnight arrives each day along with the change in the date, the values for the day measured thus far are automatically stored in memory.
I would like to delete data only for today.
If you remove the batteries from the 3D sensor pedometer, all of the measurement values for the day will be deleted.
However, since the device has an auto-memory function, if you want to delete the values for the day, you should not wait until after midnight.
It is also possible to delete data by changing the registration number. Please be aware, however, that in this case, data that has been collected thus far will all be deleted.
When the date changes, the time is displayed as PM12:00.
The 12-hour clock mode has been adopted and the device does not have any AM display.
The company conducted quite thorough studies regarding the time display that should be used when the date changes. There was no clearly explicit answer, however, and it was decided to use the time displayed in the tables as the time displayed in the device.

Why is it necessary to use the Relay-Key to adjust the time?
To put it simply, it is for the purpose of accessing graphs in the Health Graph Diary.
The pedometer has no internal calendar function and, though it is possible to set "hours" and "minutes" in the device, the date remains a constant value.
When you use the Relay-Key, accurate date and time data from the website is used to update the Relay-Key and it is necessary to transfer that data to the pedometer.
Based on that content, measurement data is accumulated and data is reflected in the Health Graph Diary using the Relay-Key.
Doesn't the measurement data disappear if the batteries are removed?
Although data accumulated in the past is not deleted even if the batteries are removed, measurement data for the day is deleted.
